As a part of academic activity, the Library department of Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised an Orientation Programme cum Book Exhibition for the freshers. It is noteworthy that the Library of the college has a collection of more than 90,000 books. It also subscribes to more than one hundred newspapers and magazines. The facility of INFLIBNET caters to the research needs of the faculty and students.
The main aim of the Programme was to spread awareness amongst the students about the optimum use of library resources such as Text books, General Books, Reference books, Journals, and Magazines, Biographies, Competitive books etc. The motive to organize the event was to acquaint the pupils with the library environment and inculcate reading habits. For this purpose a book exhibition “Know your Library” was also held.
Mrs. Rupinder Kaur Bedi, Incharge of the Library briefed the students about the rules and regulations of the library. In addition, the students were also made aware about various Library facilities such as RFID System, OPAC, Internet, Book Bank Facility, Braille corner, collection of previous years’ question papers and syllabi etc. About 1000 students participated in and benefitted from the orientation programme.
