To commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji a lecture series was organized in D.A.V. College, Sector-10, Chandigarh by the Evening Studies Department. Prof Sarbjeet Singh, ex-Head, Kendriya Punjabi Lekhik Sabha, Panjab University, expressed his views on “Relevance of Gurbani in Contemporary Indian society”. He highlighted the importance of Guru’s views on our lives today. The challenges that existed 550 years ago are still relevant in today’s society. Guru Nanak Dev ji’s philopshy according to him is much better than any other philosophy at getting over the problems in the contemporary society. Prof. Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, ex-Chairperson, Punjabi Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh, spoke on “Guru Nanak Baani and inter-faith dialogue”. He dwelled on the importance of the Universe in Guru’s Baani. He told that it was the first time that local languages were included in the religious text. Guru Nanak was of the belief that all raised by the big lord are equal and also that there is no difference on the basis of caste, gender and social strata. Principal, Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, addressing the audience said it was the best way to pay tribute to Guru Nank Dev ji. He told the students that Guru’s ideologies need to be revived for the survival of mankind and nature. The organizers Dr. Harjit Singh and Prof. Rajinder Singh thanked the speakers for the captivating lectures.
