Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society will be celebrating Pink October as Breast & Cervix Cancer Awareness Month(BCCAM) by organizing a ‘Breast Cancer Walkathon’ on Saturday, 7th October 2023 at 4.30 p.m. at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. Ms. Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh will be the Chief Guest. Dr. Pankaj Malhotra, Professor & Head, Department of Clinical Hematology & Medical Oncology, PGIMER, Chandigarh will be the Guest of Honour.

Renu Saigal, President, Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society said, “The walkathon that will see participation of people from different walks of life is organised every year to raise awareness about Breast & Cervix Cancer and how one can keep it at bay. At the event women will also be made aware about the importance of early detection of the disease and treatment protocols to be followed.”

Cancer survivors, senior doctors from PGIMER and Government Hospital, Sector-32 will take part in the walk. Even students from various schools shall participate. Members of CESA- Carmel Ex Students’ Association will also mark their presence. The walk will also see participation of NCC Cadets from Army, Air Force and Navy Wings, Army Generals, Veterans and army wives. Members of Non-Governmental Organisations(NGO’s) too shall participate in the Chandigarh City Pink Walk. Dr. Pankaj and Dr Bhavna from PGI will answer the queries of the public.

The theme for this year’s BCCAM as announced by National Cancer Information System(NCIS), is ‘Keeping Her in The Picture’. A ‘Nukkad Natak’ will be staged by students of St Soldier Divine Public School, Sector -16, Panchkula on this theme. The walkathon is open to all and residents of tricity or anywhere else too can take part in the noble initiative.
