UNITED SIKHS organized a press conference to apprise media persons regarding the legal aid being provided to farmers injured during the farmers protest. UNITED Sikhs Directors Amritpal Singh and Gurpreet Singh, UNITED SIKHS Advocate Gurmohanpreet Singh, farmer leaders Baldev Singh Sirsa and Ashok Balhara addressed the media persons.

UNITED SIKHS has been providing humanitarian assistance during disasters as well as advocating for the human and civil rights of minorities and marginalized sections around the world. After several farmers were injured during the protest recently, UNITED SIKHS decided to provide medical aid, deployed three ambulances and also took legal recourse to provide justice to farmers who were injured during the protest, UNITED SIKHS Director Gurpreet Singh said.

Advocate Gurmohanpreet Singh, working with UNITED SIKHS to provide legal assistance to farmers informed that writ petitions were being filed to seek justice for who have been injured during the peacefully protesting farmers, questioning the use of rubber bullets, teargas shells and pellet guns on farmers in direct violation of human rights. He also questioned the method of arrest of farmers, violation of territorial acts, Right to Life, by the Haryana police amongst other atrocities and indifference of the Punjab government. “We have taken up four cases including that of Amritpal Singh, Jaskaran Singh, Preet pal Singh along with Shubhkaran Singh, who died, in addition to cases of six more farmers. Criminal code is being invoked on the basis of these cases. Our legal teams are collecting more on-ground data to provide legal assistance to farmers,” he said. 

Farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa thanked UNITED SIKHS for providing medical aid to farmers. He said that organization had provided humanitarian and medical assistance during the protests in 2021 as well as oxygen concentrators to them during the Covid 19 pandemic. He said that hundreds of farmers have been injured.

Farmer leader Ashok Balhara also said that all farmers organization must come together to support farmers protests around the country.

UNITED SIKHS Director Amritpal Singh thanked the donors and supporters for their support resulting in humanitarian, medical and legal assistance to farmers. He also shared Farmer Relief Helpline number +91 9999053503 that farmers can use to seek legal assistance.
