To create awareness among the General Public about the need for judicious use & Conservation of Petroleum Products and help protect the environment, Oil Industry under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOP&NG) and Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) is organizing an Oil & Gas Conservation Month (16 January – 15 February, 2018). The campaign – ‘Saksham 2018’ (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) was inaugurated today by Mr. V P Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, at a colourful function organized by the Oil Industry in Punjab at Moti Ram Arya Sr. Sec Model School, Sector 27-A,Chandigarh.
Hon’ble Governor appreciated the efforts of PSU Oil & Gas Companies in spreading the message of Conservation of precious Petroleum Products. He further stressed upon the need for Conservation of Natural resources and thereby Environment to ensure a better future for the coming generations. Hon’ble Governor mentioned that conservation does not mean stopping use of Oil and Gas but avoiding wastages. By adopting simple tips in our day to day life, one can achieve judicious utilization of available resources. He further added that every citizen of the society has the responsibility to contribute to this national cause so that our children have a better living environment.
Earlier, Mr. Sandeep Jain, the State Level Coordinator for Oil Industry in Punjab and Chief General Manager, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Punjab, J&K, H.P & Chandigarh, in his Welcome Address outlined the various activities carried out by Oil Industry towards Oil & Gas Conservation in association with PCRA. He also highlighted the constant endeavours of the Oil Companies in improving the quality of fuels, lubricating oils thereby enabling the Indian consumer to save fuel and the environment by reducing fuel emissions. Oil companies are also actively engaged and are investing in renewable and cleaner sources of energy like bio-fuels, wind energy, solar energy etc.
Mr Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator of UT Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
A mobile van, which will travel across the length of the state of Punjab with conservation messages and relevant literature was flagged off by the Hon’ble Governor on the occasion.
Also, Balloons with conservation messages were released to mark the inauguration of the activities of the awareness month towards this noble cause.
School children performed various cultural programs based on the theme of Oil & Gas Conservation.
It is noteworthy that Saksham 2018 (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) is being observed by Oil Industry across the country from 16th January to 15th February, 2018. Various activities with the theme “Indhan Sanrakshan Kee Zimmedaari, Jan Gan Kee Bagheedaari” are planned for Housewives, School Children, Drivers, Mechanics, Industrial and Agricultural users as well as general public. Mass Awareness campaigns are being organized by PSU Oil Companies in Punjab during the month.
Later, the Governor also inaugurated a CNG facility at Indian Oil’s Pump at Kay Tee Service Station, Sector 17, Chandigarh and dedicated the environment friendly future green fuel to the citizens of Chandigarh.
