JIGYASA- The Science Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector -11, Chandigarh under the aegis of IQAC organized one day National Seminar on 22nd March, 2023 on the theme “Advances in Interdisciplinary Sciences for Sustainable Future”.The Event was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration.

The Chief Guest of the inauguration function, Shri Davender Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT, Chandigarh was introduced by respected Principal Ma’am Prof. Anita Kaushal. Shri Dalai during his inaugural address emphasized the importance of the interdisciplinary approach in today’s world where demand of resources is more and supply is less. He suggested that with modern technology, science can play important role to fill this gap. He also congratulated 150 participants including students and faculty members of the different colleges of Chandigarh and outside Chandigarh.
There were two parallel technical sessions during which series of lectures were delivered by eminent speakers pertaining to their specialization in botany, chemistry, physics and zoology.
In the first technical session, Dr. Rajiv Kalsi, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, M.L.N. Govt. College, Yamuna Nagar, Haryana delivered talk on “Wildlife of the Trans-Himalayas: Expeditions along with risks”.

Dr. Kalsi highlighted the climatic parameters and risks involving during expeditions to areas like Ladakh of Trans-Himalayas. He mentioned about the fauna of this biogeographic zone with special reference to Wallcreeper which travels all the way from Sikkim to Chandigarh in winters. Followed by this, was the lecture by Dr. Promila Pathak, Professor and Chairperson, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh. She talked about “Orchid diversity and conservation” and introduced the audience to wonderful world of orchids. She stressed upon the economical uses, their importance, characteristics supporting long shelf life and utility in different fields such as medicines, ornaments etc.
In the second technical session, Dr. Vipin Bhatnagar, Professor, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered a talk on “Interplay of science and technology to convey interdisciplinary ideas”.

The last talk was delivered by Dr. Arijit Kumar De, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER, Mohali on topic entitled “A multidisciplinary approach towards the energy crisis and artificial analogues for machinery for best utilization of sunlight”.


Apart from this, as many as 60 posters were presented during poster presentations by students and faculty members of various colleges of Chandigarh and outside Chandigarh. The best posters of the students were given prizes.


During the valedictory function, respected Principal Ma’am Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal was the Chief Guest. She appreciated the organizers for their efforts behind the success of the seminar. She also congratulated the winners and gave away prizes.In the End Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Sadhana Verma, Convener, JIGYASA-The Science Society of the College.
