A workshop on solid waste management was organized in Girls Hostel No. 8 in collaboration with NSS, Panjab University and Social Substance on 14thDecember, 2018. It was organized for the Mess, Canteen workers and the Cleanliness staff of all the hostels. Er. Anil Thakur, Executive Engineer of Horticulture Division acted as the resource person. All the workers were advised to segregate the waste as dry and wet waste at source. Methods to dispose-off the dry and wet waste were also taught to them. Dr. Emanual Nahar, DSW, Prof. Neena Capalash, DSW (W), wardens of Girls and Boys of Panjab University were special invitees to the workshop.
The major outcome was agreement and consent given by all stakeholders for cooperation to follow the rules. Issues such as training of students, waste such as sanitation pads, methods of disposal, difficulties in collection and segregation were discussed. Er. Anil Thakur mentioned that Panjab University is working on war footing to tackle its solid waste management by collaborating various units, divisions, and departments together. Dr. Anupam Bahri and Dr. Arun Bansal convened and coordinate the workshop.
