The teachers from DAV College, Chandigarh and various other Chandigarh colleges, along with PUTA, holding placards today held a massive protest for hours at the Matka Chowk, Chandigarh. The teachers were highly enraged over the inordinate delay in implementation of UGC 7th pay commission in Punjab, which has been already implemented in all UTs and states across the country including neighbour state Haryana.

The teachers raised slogans against the Punjab government for delinking the teacher’s pay scales from UGC. Punjab is the only state in the country which de-linked scales of University and college teachers from UGC. A delegation of leaders under the banner of PFUCTO including Sumit Goklaney, President DAVCTU submitted a memorandum to the authorities to list their issues in today’s cabinet meeting. The authorities promised to deliberate on the demands of teachers and assured them that their issues will be considered in the cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile, the hunger strike at DAV College, today entered 10th consecutive day to protest against the neglect of higher education and issues of teaching fraternity in the state. Sumit Goklaney, President DAVCTU said that they will forced to carry out massive protests and will intensify the agitation if new grades are not implemented and the decision to delink UGC from pay scales is not taken back by the Punjab government.
