In a fourth year in a row, the Malti Gyan Peeth Puraskar were announced for 2017 by the Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society of Sangrur here today at PHD.
Recognised by the Punjab Government as State Award for Government High and Senior Secondary School Teachers, each awardee receives Rs.One Lakh in prize along with a Certificate of Excellence, a medal and a Robe of Honour.
Fifteen teachers were selected out of 75 for the Malti Gyan Peeth Puraskar 2017 who were shortlisted through a stringent selection process with District level preliminary screening, and short-listing by DPI, final selection of two written tests, interview by subject experts and lastly by an eminent jury.
The winners include Puneet Puri of Kartarpur and Preeti Batish of Bharat Nagar, Ludhiana; and Navneet Kaur of Sensra, Amritsar for ENGLISH.
For mathematics the winners were Leeza Arora of Model Town Patiala; Arun Garg of Ralli Mansa and Gagandeep Kakkar of Tarn Taran;.
Jaswinder Singh of Shekhupura, Patiala for Physics; Priyanka of Doda Muktsar and Rupinder Kaur of Gharuan, SAS Nagar for Chemistry; Aakriti of Manoli, SAS Nagar for Biology, Anshul Jain of Jadot, SAS Nagar and Balwinder Singh of Gurusar, Bathinda for Science; Harmeet Singh of Bhakla Kalan, Jalandhar for Political Science; Dr. Amit Juneja of Fazilka, for Economics; and Gurjit Singh of Ramgarh Jawandha, Sangrur, for Social Science.
The Award is instituted by Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society (Regd) New Delhi, in honor of its founder, 96 years old, Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle, eminent educationist and social worker, to recognize excellence in teaching the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Social Science, besides promoting education of girl child.
Fifteen teachers would receive the award from the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at a special ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on 29th May, which concides with the 95th birthday of Malti ji.
The Award was instituted in 2013 by Mohinder Singh Syngle Education & Research Society, promoted by first generation industrialist, educationist and philanthropist, Manoj Singhal, chairman and managing director of the MM Auto Industries Ltd., to and his mother, a renowned educationist, Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle.
Last year, President of India, gave away the awards.
Malti Gyan Peeth Puraskar has been instituted to honour Smt. Malti Mohinder Singh Syngle, who tirelessly worked for over four decades, educating the girl child. She retired from Punjab Govt. Educational services as Principal, in the year 1980. Even after retirement, she, in her 94th year now , continues her efforts unabated for spread of education, especially for under privileged students in the rural sector. She was one of the first woman in Punjab to achieve “Bachelor of Teaching” in the year 1951, having done her post graduation in 1948.
A high profile jury chaired by Mr Manoj Singhal CMD of MM Auto group & President of the Society; along with Mr. Tej K. Magazine, Member Secretary Jury, Director Corporate, MM Auto Industries Ltd. , conducted he final interview of the shortlisted candidates.

The Society runs B.Ed. Degree College and English medium CBSE approved co-ed higher secondary school in 22 acre campus in District Sangrur, Punjab, providing value based quality education to rural youth, and has plans to extend the scope of the awards to national and international levels.
