Harmohan Dhawan the former union minister and senior BJP leader today strongly condemned the Chandigarh administration for the exhorbitant increase in the conversion charges of the lease hold to free hold properties.

Dhawan termed the decision as a “TUGLAKI FERMAAN” which has not taken the ground realities into consideration. The 50 times increase cannot be justified under any circumstances. The earlier conversion rates of Rs 1710 per sq mt. were kept in abyence in 2013. Dhawan further asked why was the administration sleeping for the last three and a half years and all of a sudden it has arisen from its deep slumber and imposed such a heavy burden on the residents? It is an anti people decision and the resident will oppose it tooth and nail. The people feel that it is much cheaper to pay the lease money rather than getting it converted to free hold.

Dhawan feel that the administration should be responsive and sensitive to the resident’s needs and requirements and must roll back the enhanced conversion rates.
