The Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated 129 years of its establishment by organizing its first National Law Fest – ‘DROIT MELANGE 2018’ on 31st January and 1st February. The two day event witnessed a medley of 8 curricular and co-curricular & cultural events staying true to the theme of the fest ‘Let’s Live Law’. In total, 22 educational institutions from across the nation participated in the Fest, providing a strength of around 200 participants including on the spot registrations.  A curtain was drawn on the Fest on 1st February at 6:30pm with the valedictory ceremony.

The Chief Guest was Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M.Singh Bedi ( Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court) and the Guest of Honour was Hon’ble Mr. Justice Augustine George Masih ( Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court). Prof. Shalini Marwaha, Chairperson, Department of Laws, Panjab University encapsulated the profile of the dignitaries and cordially welcomed them. After the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour addressed the students, the formal report of the Fest was read out by Ms. Shreyansi Verma( Media Head, Droit Melange 2018). The next half of the ceremony consisted of felicitating the winners of various events which took place during the fest.

Client counselling’s final round was judged by Hon’ble Judges of Panjab and Haryana High Court-  Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amit Raval, Hon’ble Mr. JusticeHari Pal Verma, Hon’ble Mr. Justice P.B. Bajantheri and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Avneesh Jhingan. The winners were  Adhirad and Aafreen from Army Institue of Law and runners-up were Niraimathi N. and Rishika M. from Tamil Nadu Ambedkar University. Dilshad from Dept. of Laws, PU was declared Best Client and Niraimathi N. from TN Ambedkar University was the Best Advocate.

Maxim Bee competition was won by Kamaldeep Kaur and Priyanka SOdhi from PU Regional Center, Ludhiana. The 1st Runners up were Nandini and Gauri from UILS, PU, Chandigarh. The winning teams of Treasure Hunt were Anshul & Anshuman and Ajay Pandit, Anshu Barak, Amanjot Sidhu, Divyank Mishra & Esha. However, because they were the host teams, the outstation teams who solved the hunt after them were given the prizes.

Open Debate was won by Aarushi Dubey (UILS, PU) and Arshpreet Khadial from Rayat Bahra University stood second. The winner of Slam Poetry Competition was Antarpreet ( Dept. of History, PU, Chd), Komal Kaur ( Dept. of Physics, PU, Chd) stood second.

Winners of Law Quiz were Shivalik Thaman and Sandeep Kumar of Army Institute of Law and 1st runners-up were Anshul Singhal and Priya Gupta of UILS, PU, Chandigarh.

The Skit competition was won by the Dav College, Sector 10, Chandigarh and runners up were PGGC, Sector 11, Chandigarh. PGGC’s team member also won the best actor title. Kajal and Inmal Huq were declared Ms. & Mr. DROIT MELANGE 2018 in the Ethnic Fashion Show.
