772 STUDENTS AWARDED DEGREES ON THE ANNUAL CONVOCATION FUNCTION

Postgraduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42, and Chandigarh organized its XXXI Annual Convocation Function in the college Auditorium “Sabras” on 19 April, 2017. A total of 772 degrees were distributed out of which 154 in Post-Graduation,54 in B.Com (Hons), 20 in Biotech (Hons), 126 in BA (Hons), 34 in BCA,  51 in B.Com, 174 in B.Sc, 07 in PGDCC, 05 in PGDMC,14 in PGDCA, 28 in PGDGC, and 105 in BA were conferred degrees on the occasion . As many as 02 Roll of Honour, 39 College colour awarded to outstanding students and 8 merit prizes for different subjects for holding positions at the College level in the Annual University Examination. Gunjan Sharma of  Microbial Biotechnology, Arshdeep of B.A Public Administration were awarded trophies of Academic Excellence for Standing first in Panjab University and also being awarded Gold Medals at the Panjab University Convocation.

Prof. Jai Rup Singh, Founder Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion he congratulated the college for securing 32nd Rank in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF),MHRD,Government of India.He also stressed on the need to remain connected with our heritage and mother tongue and how the function of education is not merely to get degrees but also to teach & to think intensively and critically. He further mentioned that their is a need of quality education and quality institutions in the field of higher education sector.

Prof. Binu Dogra, Principal of the college highlighted the achievements of the College in her Annual speech.She mentioned the receipt of first phase of financial support of Rs 39 Lakhs under FIST Scheme of DST and approval of  a grant of Rs 2 crore, under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) of MHRD, Govt. of India to the college. She said that four new courses namely PG Diploma in Chemical Analysis of Food, Diploma in Cosmetology, Advanced Diploma in Disaster Management and Certificate course in Music Vocal and Instrumental will be introduced in the college with effect from 2017-18. Dr. Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination & DCDC, Panjab University, Chandigarh was  the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Mrs. Kanta Tulseja coordinated the function and Mrs.Sushmita , Dean, proposed a vote of thanks.
