Beautiful models of NIIFT took the stage by storm this evening to showcase 55 hands-on beautiful collections at Anukama, 2019, the annual design collection show of the Institute. The collections were created by the graduating Fashion Design Department.

Hon’ble Industries & Commerce Minister, Government of Punjab, Sh. Sunder Sham Arora conveyed his best wishes to the budding designers and urged NIIFT to continually strive towards even higher standards of imparting design education.

Smt. Vini Mahajan, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary to Govt. of Punjab, Dept. of Industries and Commerce &Chairperson, NIIFT conveyed that the mission of NIIFT is to educate and mentor students interested in a career in fashion by imparting skill-based training which is in tune with Industry requirements. This is where NIIFT plays a vital role in shaping the students into talented designers.

Sh. Manjit Singh Brar, IAS, Director, Industries and Commerce,Punjab and DG, NIIFT also conveyed that the students used the platform of Anukama’19 to present their signature style.

Sh. K S Brar, Director, NIIFT said, “NIIFT is poised to expand and enter the next level of Design education as per needs of the fashion industry.”

Dr. Poonam Aggarwal, Principal NIIFT said that “Each student presented five ensembles. These collections of garments were based on pertinent themes varying from modern to traditional craft and art.”

“We feel proud that NIIFT students walked the ramp. Khushboo Rawat who was adjudged Miss India Khadi 2017 was the show stopper. 35 female and 6 male models walked the ramp adding the glam quotient to the student’s creations.” Said Ms. Deepti Sharma, Coordinator, Anukama 2019 & HOD, Fashion design department

The Best Design Collection award- Mohita

Best Garment Construction– Saumya

Best Commercial Collection – Dilman Kaur

The Most Creative Collection – Simardeep Kaur

Best Interpretation of Concept- Jagriti and Vani

Most Innovative Pattern making – Unnati and Diwakar

Best use of Craft in Design Development – Kajal and Manvi

Best use of Art in Design Development – Anusha

Jury Special Award – Pawan Kumar

These students were guided by their Mentors- Dr. Poonam Aggarwal, Dr. Simrita Singh, Ms. Deepti Sharma, Mr. Gobiend Rai and Ms. Navdeep Kaur.An eminent jury made up of Fashion, Apparel and Textile Experts evaluated the designed collections.

The collections presented were breathtaking. The highlight of Anukama’19was the collection named ‘The lost sound’ created by Kajal, inspired by utensil making art of Thathera community of Jandiala Guru that has been accredited as one of the intangible crafts by UNESCO

Anusha also chose her theme ‘Abhidharma Pitaka’ based on Buddhist chant by UNESCO,

Smiti Wahi created a collection named ‘The fight for light which is a tale of Eskimos survival at Antarctica.

Jagriti worked on a collection for the third gender.In fact, transgender also walked the ramp in an attire from her collection.

Reetanshu fashioned a collection to bring upfront the violence against human trafficking which was achieved by application of barcodes on her garments.

Mohita’s ‘Ball Night to Disco lights’ was inspired from Disco glitters, an ornamental art work done with silver CD’s was also presented.

Simardeep and Pawan showcased their collection ‘Climate injustice’ and ‘Volcanic Eruptions’ respectively. The designs were created using the innovative technique & motifs were taken form climatic conditions specially the Glaciers and lava melting state.

‘Revival of Patchitra’ by Manvi was stimulated from craft of Orissa and the collection ‘Vini Vidi Vici’ by Vani Bhagat got its inspiration from Chinese dragon Loong.

NIIFT is under the administrative control of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab and is functioning under the dynamic leadership and able guidance of the Hon’ble Industries & Commerce Minister ,Government of Punjab, Sh. Sunder Sham Arora, Smt. Vini Mahajan, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary to Govt. of Punjab,Dept. of Industries and Commerce & Chairperson,NIIFT and Sh. M S Brar,IAS, Director, Industries and Commerce, Punjab & Director General,NIIFT.

It is noteworthy that NIIFT is an accredited, diverse, and expanding college of Fashion, Management and Technology established in 1995 and has grown to be one of India’s premiere institutes. NIIFT provides B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degrees.

Admissions to the Degree Programs is based on clearing the entrance test which is scheduled for 2/6/2019. This year the last date of submission of applications is 26/05/2019. The entrance test is followed by the situation test/ interviews and counseling respectively. Details are available on the website  www.niiftindia.com
