To create public awareness on the need of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors and raise awareness about saving lives through blood donation, Fortis Hospital Mohali observed World Blood Donor Day by organizing a two-day voluntary blood donation camp at the facility from 14-15 June.

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on 14th June every year to raise awareness about saving lives through blood donation. The theme of this year’s event was “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”

Stressing on the importance of blood donation, Dr Apra Kalra, Head, Blood Bank, Fortis Hospital Mohali, said, “The aim of celebrating World Blood Donor Day is to ensure that is always available whenever and wherever it is required. This is a life-saver as sometimes urgent blood is required to save somebody’s life.”

Meanwhile, more than 120 units of blood were collected from staff and other volunteers at the donation drive.  A cake-cutting ceremony was also held by the doctors and voluntary donors. All donors were felicitated with certificates and tokens of appreciation.
