Manoj Parida, Adviser to the UT Administrator today asked the medical students to work for the mankind with pride and dignity. He was speaking at the inaugural function of the 29th New Academic Session of MBBS and B.Sc. (Ophthalmology, Radiodiagnosis, Anesthesia, Medical Laboratory Technology and Nursing), at GMCH auditorium here today.

Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He delivered motivational speech to the new entrants and asked them to work for the mankind with pride and dignity. He acknowledged that medical training is very harsh and lengthy, but this is one of the best professions.

The adviser said that he was happy to inaugurate 29th Academic day and meet the faculty, students and staff and appreciated their hard work to bring GMCH at National level where every student dream to seek admission. He assured all the possible help from Chandigarh Administration to bring GMCH in top five institutions in the country.

Prof. B.S. Chavan the Director-PrincipalGMCH while welcoming the students and their parents informed that they have entered into an institution of academic excellence and high ethical and moral values which stands 7th among all the public medical institutions of the country. The students were introduced to the faculty and their mentors. The mentors who are randomly chosen will support the students in their academic and personal growth. The mentor system is in place since 2012. Prof. Chavan assured the students and their parents that GMCH has ‘Zero Tolerance’ for ragging. He shared his personal e-mail and mobile number with the students and asked them to reach out to him any time in case of any difficulty being encountered by them.

As a ritual of ‘White Coat Ceremony’, chief guest handed over the white coat to couple of students of MBBS, B.Sc. Nursing and other paramedical courses and the rest were asked to wear their white coat to induct them into the new profession.

For some of the students, initial few months might become stressful, Prof. Chavan informed that there is stress management clinic called ‘Trainee Drop In’ on every Thursday afternoon in B Block Ground Floor and any student can walk in for any issue. The students were also informed that their batch will have new curriculum from this year. There is revamp of the curriculum and the new syllabus is skill-based learning. Prof. Chavan further shared that despite sporadic incidents of violence towards doctors, medicine is still one of the most beautiful and noble profession.
