Post Graduate department of zoology of DAV College Chandigarh in collaboration with NSS unit, organised a webinar on the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’on 5th June 2021, i.e. World Environment Day, to highlight the vital role of individuals in restoring and renewing the deteriorated ecosystems. The webinar witnessed a mass presence of over 500 people.
The session was inaugurated by Dr. Kulvir Sra Dhindsa, Head, Dept. of Zoology, DAV College, Chandigarh where she warmly welcomed Dr. Pawan Sharma, Principal of DAV College Sector 10 Chandigarh and the Guest Of Honour, Dr. Parvinder Singh, Vice Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, Mohali.
Dr. Pawan Sharma exhorted on the ideals of anthropogenic and egocentric practices that man resorts to. He pointed out that mere thoughts couldn’t change the reality, but radical actions were needed for the betterment.
Dr. Parvinder Singh enlightened the gathering with the fact that the imbalance of the nature within humans caused them to let their greed over rule them. He further added that the greed with which we defined our actions, ended up bringing calamity to the environment.
Dr. Suman Kapoor, NSS Programming Officer DAVC, introduced the key note speaker of the day, Dr. Simerjit Kaur Shergill, Head, Dept. of Life Sciences, Rayat Bahra University, Mohali.
Dr. Simerjit sensitized the audience towards malpractices that have been wreaking havoc on the nature. Besides pointing out the bad practices, she suggested alternate methods which could help slow down man’s malice.
The concluding vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Veena Bhalla of the Zoology Dept.
