Moving beyond academics, Indus also organized the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) Exhibition. The Grade 5 students inaugurated the event as they showcased global issues through various art components such as dance, drama and music. Students demonstrated multiple innovative solutions for the global issues they had identified for the IB PYP Exhibition. They had inquired and created solutions for topics such as air pollution, provision of education for all including the visually challenged, etc. Some of them came up with apps to monitor water usage, they identified which companies use animal products, the students used the application of Piezo electricity to conserve energy, students also made use of sensor to segregate waste and create a website by combining WIX website creator and coding.
Well, any amount of learning is futile if the students do not understand human values and contribute to the society. Unlike other schools, Indus International School Bengaluru (IISB) has a unique concept of House Visions which plays an integral part of community service. The House Visions are centered on the philosophy of servant leadership through women empowerment projects. There are several products made by the students in collaboration with women from the neighboring villages. To give these products a boost, the school launched a portal – The Eagle Cart. Grade 9 students of Enterprise and Computer Science, led by Hema Thiagarajan and Riddhi Shukla, and led the project of creating the website.
Yet another student who excelled beyond academics was Sidharth Ramanan of Grade 12. The school honored him with the Indus Eagle award for his exemplary leadership qualities and contribution to the society. Sidharth was recognized for his efforts to make a difference to the society by creating a mobile app ‘Donate Now’ that works as a platform to connect NGOs that support underprivileged children with donors.
Mrs. Sarojini Rao, Principal IISB, said, “We believe in offering whole-education which is not meant to come at a cost of academic rigor. At Indus, every student is motivated and coached to live in the world with the philosophy of innovation, leadership, and competency.”
