As a part of the curriculum, students of Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Communication Dept of Aryans College of Engineering (ACE), Rajpura, Near Chandigarh were taken for an industrial visit to Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), Solar Passive complex in Sector 33D Chandigarh.

The objective of the visit was to make students aware about the importance of energy conservation, use of renewable energy, promotion of solar energy, Use of waste material and Environment-friendly construction etc.

Er. Gagandeep Singh, Building Incharge of PEDA explained students about Salient design features of Solar Passive Complex such as orientation, Unique Shell Roofing on Central Atrium, Light Vaults, Wind Tower coupled with Solar Chimneys etc.

Gagandeep told that the buildings are being designed uniquely using techniques like providing big windows, large size corridors for sufficient air movement, Chajja’s that were projected more than 1.5m from the buildings to block the direct sunlight from entering the rooms water and waste management system, own generators to restore the solar energy and then utilizing according to their need.

He further briefed the students on the concept of Green Buildings and the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standards set by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

PEDA- Solar Passive Complex, Chandigarh is a unique and successful model of Energy Efficient Solar Building, designed on Solar Passive Architecture with the partial support of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India and Department of New & renewable energy (NRE), Govt. of Punjab. The building is Rated as 5 stars by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on the basis of Energy Performance Index (EPI).
