Shreya Adhav shares expert advice on nutrition to players

Renowned Nashik based nutritionist Shreya Adhav organised a special session on ‘In Sight on Sports Nutrition,‘ in association with Dr Jagmeet Suri’s venture, today in Ludhiana.  

Shreya, a well known personality among sportspersons, has helped many athletes through to excel by managing their proper nutrition. Anahat Singh, the No. 1 squash player in Asia and India, who has created a new record by winning the US Open in the Under 15 category in 2021, is one among Shreya’s clients, which also includes, Ankur Dhama, Sandeep Singh Mann, Kanchan Mala Pandey etc.

“Corona gave a lot of difficulties but also showed new ways, when everyone was locked in their homes at the time of lock down, nutrition became even more important to stay healthy and increase immunity, “ said Dr Jagmeet Suri. “We have started online diet consultancy all over the country by tying up with top dieticians and nutrition experts from all over the country. As nutrition plays an important role in staying healthy and with the help of guide, our athletes can stay healthy with the expert advice of nutrition across India,” he added.

“In today’s busy life, we have to make sure to include all kinds of essential nutrients in your diet. Due to low amount of nutrition, the body does not know how many types of medical conditions pass through.A balanced diet is a diet consisting of a variety of foods in certain quantities and proportions so that calories, proteins, minerals, vitamins and alternative nutrients are adequate and a small portion is reserved for nutrients,” said Shreya. She further added,” In addition, a balanced diet should contain bioactive phytochemicals such as dietary fiber, antioxidants and nutraceuticals that have positive health benefits. A balanced diet should contain 60-70% of total calories from carbohydrates, 10-12% from protein and 20-25% of total calories from fat.”

Health benefits of a balanced diet

While discussing about the benefits of a healthy diet, Shreya added: “Healthy eating increases energy, improves the way your body functions, strengthens your immune system and prevents weight gain. There are other major benefits as well. A balanced diet meets your nutritional requirement. A varied, balanced diet provides the nutrients you need to avoid nutrient deficiencies.”
