Department of Physical Education and Gender Equity Society- Sahasi of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, Chandigarh celebrated “National Girl Child Day” on 24th January, 2023 by organizing a “Self Defence Training Programme” in the college campus. The objective of the Programme was to educate girl students about the different techniques of self-defence so as to face any untoward incidence or violence against them. Principal of the college, Dr. Abha Sudarshan addressed the students regarding the importance of self-defence and appreciated the efforts of Physical Education department and Gender Equity society in organising this event. She further added that it is a major step towards Women Empowerment. Now a days many roadside incidents are being witnessed like chain snatching, acid attacks, eve teasing, etc. “Such programs make girl students aware about their hidden powers and empower them to fight against these kinds of attacks”, she added.
Dr. Rajinder Singh Kaura, Head of the department of Physical education stressed upon the significance of self- defence techniques. Dr. Baljeet Singh, Vice principal of the college, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Convenor of Gender Equity society, Dr.Vishaw Gaurav, Dr. Sugandha Mittal, Dr. Pooja Gupta, Ms. sunita were also present on this occasion.
