As a part of celebration of ‘Science Day’, faculty of Science of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized One day Capacity Building Workshop on “Recent trends in Science and Technology” under the aegis of RUSA today. Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal highlighted that this initiative is to promote Science in the institutions of higher Education and inculcate scientific temper among young minds.
Dr. Juin Ming Li from Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore, delivered the Key-note address on Liquid Rotating Detonation Engine (RDE) in which he explained that RDEs have higher thermodynamic efficiency when compared to conventional deflagration combustors and is expected to bring technical revolution in current aviation and aerospace popularism systems.
Prof. Namas Chandra from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Technology, USA, talked on the diversity of research and development leading to the planting of various new technological seeds. He observed that for sustainable development, it is necessary to familiarize our young and innovative minds with the emerging interdisciplinary technology.
In the evening session Prof. E. Arunan from the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, IISC Bangalore, delivered a lecture on Shock Wave Technology in which he illustrated how shock waves are associated with supersonic flights, and are increasingly finding exciting transdisciplinary application in almost all branches of Science, Engineering and Medicine.
As many as 100 students and 40 faculty members attended the workshop. The workshop proved that scientific temper and technological innovations are the key drivers for economic growth and intellectual prosperity of a nation.
