North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) in collaboration with Department of Cultural Affairs, U.T. Administration, Chandigarh and Sanskar Bharti, Chandigarh organises Octave-2018: Festival of North East States to mark the occasion of Nav Samvatsar at New Lake, Sector 42, Chandigarh from March 18 to 20, 2018. For the first time in Chandigarh, a grand stage was created in the middle of the Lake for dance presentations by the artists of North-East.

Prof. Saubhagya Vardhan, Director, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala informed that the artists from North-East States performed at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh on March 19, 2018 at 10.00 am and Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh at 11.30 am. Besides this, Nukkar Nataks on Swachh Bharat were also staged by theatre groups from tricity. Teachers and students appreciated these presentations.

Honble Governor of Haryana, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki inaugurated the evening cultural presentations by folk/tribal artists of Octave-2018: Festival of North East States at New Lake, Sector 42 in the evening at 06.30 hrs. Sh. Sanjay Tondon, State President, BJP, Chandigarh and Member Board of Directors, GAIL India, Sh. Dinesh Kumar, Organization Secretary, BJP, Punjab, Sh. Prem Ji Goyal, Sewa Bharti, Sh. Kamal Arora, Chairman, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy, Bibi Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights and other distinguished guests also graced the said occasion. Artists of North-East presented colourful folk/tribal dance viz. ‘Bihu’ (Assam), ‘Brozai’ (Arunachal Pradesh), ‘Lai-Haroba’ (Manipur) ‘Sarlamkai’ (Mizoram), ‘Hozagiri’ (Tripura), ‘Sheela Pheta’ (Nagaland), ‘Rikampada’ (Arunachal Pradesh), War dance (Nagaland), ‘Cheraw’ (Mizoram), ‘Sangrai Mog’ (Tripura), ‘Thagta-stick dance (Manipur), ‘Bardoi Shikla (Assam), Pung Cholam-Dhol Cholam (Manipur). Ms. Mrignayani Pande conducted the stage during the programme. General public also appreciated the performances made by the artists.
Apart from this, a ‘Crafts Fair’ is also put up by NZCC in which 30 craft artists from across the country are exhibiting and selling their crafts from 11.00 am to 10.00 pm daily. The Rajasthani food and Jaleb stall of Haryana also attracted a lot of people. The special artifacts made on Chalk by Sh. Balraj Singh of Chandigarh also appreciated by many. As part of the festival a ‘Painting Camp’ is also being organized, in which Ms. Sadhana Sangar and other painting artists are participating.

Prof. Saubhagya Vardhan informed that Honble Governor of Punjab, Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh and Chairman, NZCC, Patiala, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore will be the Chief Guest on the Closing Ceremony of Octave-2018 at New Lake,Sector 42, Chandigarh on March 20, 2018. Artists of North-East will also perform at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh on March 20, 2018 at 11.30 am.
