The postgraduate department of Mathematics, MCM DAV college, Chandigarh organised ‘Mathsmania 2017’ an inter college math fest on March 29, 2017. Prof. Savita Bhatnagar, chairperson, Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh graced the occasion with her presence as the chief guest of this event.
The event began with a preliminary round where the participants had to undergo a written quiz. Further, students participated in collage making competition.
After the interesting PowerPoint presentation session on ‘Life with and without Mathematics’, an interesting round of Pictionary gave the audience a good rush of brain-tease and kept the students hooked up till the last moment.
The purpose of these sessions was to make students enjoy the subject as it is disliked by many. Mathematics must be taken in a light-hearted manner and must be enjoyed by every student, with this intention the faculty of MCM DAV college organised this special event. The jury panel consisted of Prof. Harjeet Kaur, of PGGCG-11, Chandigarh and Associate Prof. Baljeet Singh, Post Graduate Government College, sector 11, Chandigarh.
The much awaited final round of quiz was conducted after the Pictionary round.
The participants shortlisted from the written quiz showcased their mathematics skills in the final round. After a tough competition Amanpreet and Vishali of MCM DAV bagged the First position while Prerna and yukti secured second position. Arwinder Kaur from PGGCG-11 also won the first prize in collage making.
Principal of the college Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the endeavour of Mathematics department to provide a unique platform to students to showcase their talent and encouraged students to utilize these exceptional opportunities to further their aspirations.
