FICCI and NITTTR being serious stakeholders in education building, joined hands to conduct a one of its kind technical education conference of educational bodies & industries to discuss their vital issues on a common platform, and to create awareness amongst academicians, scientists, researchers & practitioners from various disciples to discuss the issues & challenges posed to the technical education system. With the rationale to revolutionize the technical education scenario prevailing in the country, the conference took place at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) campus, Sector-26 Chandigarh. Setting up the tone of the event, Prof. (Dr.) SS Pattnaik, Director, NITTTR said, “Educational Conclaves like these will contribute in integrating science & technology with the learning, in order to meet the changing demands for attaining the centre of excellence in the education sector.”

Emphasizing on the rationale of the event, Mr. Subodh Aggarwal, Advisor, Regional Council of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh-FICCI said, “Industry requirement of technology is ever-evolving. There is a dire need to build a strong foundation for our educational system, and add dues according to the specific requirements of the respective industries. I would like to thank NITTTR and FICCI for providing me an opportunity to be a part of such a momentous conference.”

Dr. Sanjay Sharma, NITTTR, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Arora, Director, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh, Prof. Dr. RK Wats, and Prof. (Dr.) K.K. Aggarwal, Former Vice-Chancellor, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University, New Delhi, Mr. GP Singh, MLA, Bassi Pathana were present at the conference.

“”Today our society has been segmented into two parts i.e. the rich and the poor. All government schools in Punjab teach the students in Punjabi. When I raised voice against it in the Vidhan Sabha and emphasized on the need for English, they saw me as a foe of Punjabi language. If we go by the statistics, only 10% schools in Punjab have science as a subject in their curriculum. So, I feel that the problems that we face in the educational sector exist at the grass root level. In order to accelerate the education condition in our country, I’ve taken some reformative initiatives like setting up of CCTV cameras in the campuses, biometric attendance system for both teachers & students, and career & counseling services for the students as well as their parents.” said the Chief Guest, Shri Charanjit Singh Channi, Hon’ble Minister for Technical Education and Industrial Training, Punjab.


Mr. GB Singh, Regional Head, FICCI concluded the inaugural session with a vote of thanks. “Education is a great leveler, and provides the only sustainable route to reduce disparities. Many key issues being faced by the technical educational sector are multilayered & interlinked, involving institutions & other regulatory bodies. Necessary steps should be undertaken to ensure alignment of the technical education system with state & national priorities for competitiveness in the global knowledge economy. Engagement of key stakeholders should be a key dimension of this planning”, he said.

The technical conference accentuated on integrating Governmental initiatives for an all- inclusive, globally competitive & effective technical education ecosystem in the country, the interactive session focused on the current governmental initiatives to address the same.

The dignitaries discussed the novel teaching practices prevailing in India, primarily digitization & automation, focusing on innovative models and pathways in technology. The last session relooked into the education, skill & employability sector, taking a comprehensive overview of the demands & gaps, and the need for time-bound synergistic efforts in this direction to achieve the goals of skill India mission.

The technical conference critically analyzed the problems faced by the education system in India and proposed pro-active solutions to tackle the same. It concluded with an emphasis on the dire need for strategic measures for an overall rise in the quality of technical education in India and directing governmental policies, systems & processes towards that goal at an adequate scale in a speedy manner.
