S.Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Deputy Speaker, Punjab Legislative Assembly, Govt. of Punjab as chief guest inaugurated Saksham 2023 (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav), a 15 days campaign to sensitise citizens about the acute need for petroleum conservation at Auditorium of Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration(MGSIPA), Sector 26 here. The theme of Saksham-23 is ‘Energy conservation towards net zero emission.’

Chief Guest, S.Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, while speaking on the occasion said, “Given that India depends on imports for over 80 percent of its energy needs, awareness campaigns like ‘Saksham 2023’ will go a long way in making people understand the need to save fuel.”

SLC (Oil Industry), Chandigarh during his welcome address emphasised the need to inculcate the habit of saving petrol, diesel & LPG in day to day life.

Shri Jitendra Kumar, SLC (Oil Industry), Punjab and ED & State Head, IOCL, Chandigarh while speaking on the occasion said, “This campaign aims to intensify efforts for making people aware about the need for effective utilization of petroleum products.”

Other prominent dignitaries present included Mainak Mukherjee, State Head (LPG), Punjab, J&K & HP, BPCL, Chandigarh & Akash Bhawan, Zonal GM Mktg. GAIL (India) Ltd.

Meanwhile the inaugural event of Saksham-2023, was marked by various activities including a conservation pledge by the Hon’ble Chief Guest, a Nukkad Natak on oil and gas conservation, and releasing balloons and flagging off of a conservation van followed by a signing on pledge board activity.

Officers from all oil industry, LPG distributors, retail outlet dealers, teachers, children, participants from transport and industrial sectors were present on the occasion.

During the campaign, activities on fuel conservation like cyclothon, walkathon, alternate fuel rally, nukkad natak, debate in schools /colleges and wall painting competitions & awareness by mobile van in Chandigarh & Punjab shall be held. In addition, the campaign will include an online pledge on fuel conservation, public seminars, fuel efficient driving contests, LPG panchayats covering safety and conservation tips.

On 8th May, 2023, the valedictory function will be held wherein prizes will be given away to winners selected in various competitions.
