Fortis Hospital Mohali started with the COVID-19 vaccination drive for its healthcare workers today with three vaccination sites, vaccinating a total of 100 doctors, nurses, and frontline workers. Punjab’s Principal Secretary, Health, HussanLal was also present on the occasion.
Since the launch of the Pan-India COVID vaccination drive on 16th January, healthcare workers at Fortis Hospital Mohali had been eagerly waiting for their turn to get the shots. Three spacious suites were created within the IPD lobby for this purpose. A dedicated team of nurses, doctors, HR representatives, security personnel, and clinical pharmacists were specially trained for the purpose of carrying out the drive as per the government recommendations.
Dr. Amit Kumar Mandal, Director, Pulmonology, Sleep & Critical Care, Fortis Hospital Mohali, who was the first to get the jab, said, “A lot has been discussed and debated about COVID vaccine. It’s about time to take the jab and stay protected. There are two ways of getting the immunity – one is getting the infection and recovering from it the other is getting the vaccine shot and developing the immunity, which is a wiser option.”
Dr. Swapna Misra, Additional Director, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, was the other senior doctors who came forward to be vaccinated. Representatives from nursing, para-medical, and non-medical staff who were vaccinated included, Sarabjeet Kaur Brar, GICU Incharge; Daljeet Singh, Lab. Technician; AnuroopSehgal, IT Head and Dr. Bhavna Ahuja, Medical Superintendent.
Dr. Parvinder Chawla, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Fortis Hospital Mohali, said, “As the world enters the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic and we launch the nationwide vaccination campaign against it. 50 years back, almost every family knew of someone who had either died or had been affected by smallpox or polio. Today, these diseases are not on our radar just because of the effective vaccination drives. I hope to see a similar acceptance for vaccines and a similar outcome for COVID too.”
